Transportation Management Center Technician

Job Summary
This position is assigned to the Transportation Management Center (TMC), a 24-hour planning, engineering, and transportation operations facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating multiple traffic control monitoring and information systems, incident and event planning, and general dispatching operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect and ensure compliance with design plans, materials specifications, safety requirements, construction processes, local, state, and federal codes, and ongoing maintenance requirements.
- Design, develop, and review engineering project/site layouts, alignments, profiles, studies, graphs, and other related activities.
- Compile and record notes, sketches, test results, inspection data, and other information to document compliance and/or develop designs, specifications, reports, maps, and other geographically based data.
- Conduct various studies to analyze needs, develop plans, record characteristics, and other related activities.
- Conduct data analysis to determine accuracy of data collected, develop recommendations, develop corrective designs, and/or ensure compliance.
- Test and evaluate the quality of materials or designs to verify adherence to contracts and specifications.
- Obtain survey data, such as angles, elevations, points, and contours, using electronic distance measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.
- Calculate and measure area and volume dimensions, horizontal and vertical geometry, profile, and component specifications, and material testing dimensions using calculators or computers.
- Operate computer-assisted drafting equipment or other tools of the trade.
- Read and interpret plans, specifications, blueprints, and other engineering documents.
Requirements
Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
Traffic - Transportation Management Center TMC:
- Knowledge of applied mathematical computations.
- Knowledge of interpreting construction plans and details, schematics, or technical drawings.
- Possession of a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).
Working Conditions
This position requires rotational shift work, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended work hours during incidents or emergencies. Applicants can expect to work closely with the general public to field concerns and answer questions on behalf of the Department.
Conditions of Hire
Pre-employment drug testing and a satisfactory criminal background check are required as conditions of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.
This position is a classification organized under an exclusive bargaining representative (labor organization) that has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other applicable terms and conditions of employment, in accordance with Title 29, Chapter 59 and Title 19, Chapter 13 and 16. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement based on its individual terms.
As a condition of hire, you must possess a valid driver's license (not suspended, revoked, or cancelled, or disqualified from driving). Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. The State of Delaware participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S.
