Job Title: Special Education Support Professional

V-Tech Solutions, Inc. is seeking a motivated Special Education Support Professional to assist teachers in promoting student learning and well-being. The ideal candidate will work individually and in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance, and support learning.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide instructional and developmental activities for students
  • Assist individual and groups of children to reinforce learning initiated by teachers in various subject areas
  • Implement consistent reinforcement of appropriate student behaviors and surface management strategies to address challenging behaviors
  • Provide support to all students in academic and non-academic classes
  • Assist in administering alternative tests and assessments
  • Perform medical tasks as authorized by the Maryland Nurse Practice Act
  • Implement student Behavior Intervention Plans and learning contracts to manage inappropriate behaviors
  • Provide special help to students with short attention spans through interesting activities
  • Alert teachers to individual student needs and suggest programming
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans
  • Provide information to assist teachers in evaluating the learning process and behavior management programs
  • May assist teachers in classes presenting basic skills in off-site job training programs
  • Assist teachers in carrying out classroom activities and prepare instructional materials
  • Help maintain order and discipline and assist in managing student behavior
  • Assist with teaching classes of basic skills and monitor computer, writing, or other technology laboratories
  • Supervise students between classrooms, during lunch, and recess, and provide physical and instructional assistance as needed
  • Assist in supervising students while being transported on buses
  • May perform clerical and non-instructional duties such as keeping attendance counts, collecting money, and maintaining files and records
  • Assist with routine care, including personal hygiene, toileting, feeding, and other custodial tasks
  • Maintain confidentiality as it relates to student records and health information
  • Ensure students' wheelchairs and safety restraints are properly secured
  • Observe students' behaviors and interactions on the bus and reinforce classroom learning
  • Respond to parent inquiries and concerns by referring parents to the appropriate professional
Requirements:
  • AA degree or equivalent with a minimum of nine credit hours related to education
  • Two to four years' experience working with children and adolescents in a structured educational setting
  • At least 48 college credits and two years of experience in an education-related field, including preschool, adult day programs, after-school programs, and extended day programs
  • Two years of experience in an education-related field, including nursery school, adult day programs, after-school programs, and extended day programs, and successful completion of the ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher
  • Any combination of applicable education, training, and experience that provides the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position
