Ironworker Role Overview

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN IRONWORKER:
  • Establish hoisting apparatus for elevating structural steel components.
  • Secure steel components to lifting cables utilizing chains.
  • Communicate with hoisting equipment operators to elevate steel components.
  • Direct components into place using guiding lines.
  • Align bolt openings in steel components with drift pins.
  • Confirm vertical and horizontal alignment with plumb bobs.
  • Cut and weld steel components as necessary for modifications.
  • Load, transport, and unload materials and supplies effectively.
  • Conduct minor maintenance on tools and machinery.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR IRONWORKERS:
  • Demonstrate precision and accuracy in work.
  • Utilize shop mathematics to address challenges.
  • Choose appropriate tools and strategize work accordingly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE IRONWORKER POSITION:

The individual must frequently communicate, listen, sit, use hands, and reach. Occasionally, standing, walking, climbing, and lifting heavy materials are required.

Specific vision capabilities necessary include both close and distant vision.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR IRONWORKERS:

A high school diploma may be required along with relevant experience in the industry. Familiarity with standard concepts and practices in the field is essential. The role typically operates under supervision and adheres to established guidelines to fulfill job responsibilities. Generally reports to a supervisor or manager.
