Position Summary
This role involves overseeing a team of Claims Examiners and Claims Service Representatives who manage intricate claims. The Claims Supervisor ensures that all claims are handled promptly, effectively, and courteously, with a strong focus on adherence to established guidelines. This position also includes supervising the work of external vendors and contractors.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise Examiners and Service Representatives to guarantee proper claims management and compliance with established procedures.
  • Oversee the output of external vendors and contractors.
  • Assess property claims and provide direction and settlement authority to property claims adjusters.
  • Conduct Open and Closed File Reviews to assess and document overall operational effectiveness.
  • Manage loss, loss adjustment expenses, and reserves for property claims efficiently.
  • Identify complex claims and formulate appropriate claims strategies and settlement solutions.
  • Research and interpret policy language and state regulations as required.
  • Handle and resolve special cases or problem claims, evaluating claims and addressing policy coverage issues beyond staff authority.
  • Assist in developing departmental policies and procedures, setting strategic goals, and providing direction and support.
  • Communicate effectively with agents, policyholders, Claims Unit personnel, Underwriting, Human Resources, Finance/Accounting, and the Chief Claims Officer. Engage with external business partners and exercise independent judgment.
  • Build a cohesive and efficient team that consistently delivers high-quality customer service.
  • Provide leadership and growth objectives for team members while collaborating with teams to achieve organizational goals.
  • Undertake additional tasks and projects as assigned.

Essential Skills

  • Proficient in supervising and guiding Examiners and Service Representatives in claims handling, performance, compliance, strategy, and settlement authority.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate coverages, interpret insurance policies, and determine effective settlement strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with internal departments, direct reports, and external stakeholders.
  • Adept at identifying and interpreting complex, special, or large loss claims and determining suitable resolution strategies.
  • Ability to monitor team performance continuously, providing goals, evaluations, and necessary disciplinary actions.

Qualifications

  • Florida All Lines Adjuster License (620 License) is mandatory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and substantial directly related experience.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in processing Homeowners claims, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational abilities.

Direct Reports
Responsible for managing Claims Examiner and Claims Service Representative personnel, as well as overseeing external vendors and contractors.


Work Environment
This position is based in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.


Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly. The employee frequently stands, walks, uses hands for various tasks, and reaches with hands and arms.
