Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced leader to serve as the Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to the department, driving excellence in clinical, educational, and research programs, and fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define the clinical, research, and educational priorities of the department and develop strategic plans to achieve them.
  • Lead the department's clinical, educational, and research programs, ensuring excellence and innovation in all areas.
  • Foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and equity, promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for all faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the department's financial and operational sustainability.
  • Collaborate with other departments and institutions to advance the department's mission and goals.
Requirements
  • Doctorate degree (MD/DO) with board certification in Neurosurgery or related field.
  • Strong track record of professional accomplishments on a national and international scale, with a focus on clinical success, education, and research.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with experience in strategic planning, team building, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a proven track record of promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated capability across the spectrum of individual scholarship, collaborative academic leadership, clinical and research program development, educational excellence, successful faculty recruitment and retention, commitment to diversity, and community engagement.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with others in an environment where the medical school and the clinical system are partners.
  • Previous experience as a division chief, vice chair, or chair of neurosurgery, with a track record of developing academic leaders, mentoring and developing junior faculty, and identifying and recruiting diverse students, trainees, staff, and faculty.
