Cardiothoracic Surgical Nurse

Overview

The primary focus of the Registered Nurse (RN) is to provide exceptional care to patients undergoing cardiothoracic surgical procedures.

The RN operates within a comprehensive surgical environment, which includes multiple operating rooms and minor procedure areas, ensuring optimal care during the intraoperative phase of the surgical process.

Patient Demographics

The patient population served encompasses a variety of surgical specialties, including but not limited to:
- Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT)
- General Surgery
- Cardiothoracic Surgery
- Genitourinary Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Vascular Surgery
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Podiatric Surgery
- Ophthalmologic Surgery
- Gynecologic Surgery

Key Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of biopsychosocial concepts and technical proficiency in patient care.
  • Organizing and planning patient care to ensure timely and safe completion of assignments, utilizing evidence-based practices.
  • Exhibiting strong communication skills and fostering effective interpersonal relationships with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Implementing the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, evaluation) to deliver safe and effective care.
  • Accurately documenting patient care and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Providing care in a respectful and non-discriminatory manner, honoring the diverse values of all patients.
  • Engaging in self-assessment and professional development to enhance nursing skills.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and identifying areas for practice enhancement.

Work Environment

This position requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment. The RN may be assigned to either the scrub or circulating role, collaborating with surgical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications
