Controller Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team at Dimmitt Chevrolet Inc. Our company is a privately held automotive dealership proudly serving the Tampa Bay Area, and we are committed to providing excellent service to our customers.

Job Summary

The Controller will be responsible for managing the financial and accounting system for our business, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This individual will work closely with our CPA Firm to prepare financial statements, ledgers, and schedules, and will be responsible for monitoring and reconciling bank accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the end of month process, preparing a complete financial statement according to dealership guidelines and manufacturer formats.
  • Monitor and reconcile bank accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Review financial statements, ledgers, and scheduled accounts, working with the accounting staff to clear up any discrepancies.
  • Assist our CPA Firm with the annual audit and support for tax returns.
  • Balance fixed asset accounts to tax schedules and the fixed asset schedules.
  • Prepare sales tax and other state tax returns in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Review bi-weekly and bonus payrolls, posting payroll journals to the general ledger.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government finance regulations, including filing and/or maintaining of required forms.
  • Summarize the sales and expense analysis to detect potential areas and opportunities for improved company profitability.
  • Maintain and inspect accounting information for compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Continually strive to improve data integrity and information reporting throughout the dealership.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years automotive controller experience required.
  • CDK/ADP experience helpful, other DMS experience considered.
  • Full knowledge of financial statements and all aspects of the automotive accounting department.
  • Advanced MS Office / Office 365 skills (specifically Excel).
  • A bachelor's degree in business administration or accounting with a CPA designation not required but preferred.
