Fleet Mechanic Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Fleet Mechanic to join our team at the City of Clearwater, FL. As a Fleet Mechanic, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of city vehicles and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain, repair, and service various vehicles and equipment, including automobiles, trucks, fire apparatus, and specialized equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and vehicles to ensure proper function and operation, and test repairs to ensure quality control.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment and software to identify and troubleshoot problems with vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform welding and fabrication, and make service calls and field repairs as needed.
  • Service, repair, and test fire pumps, priming devices, transfer cases, power assists, hydraulic systems, and other specialized fire equipment.
  • Prepare records and write narrative on work accomplished, and ensure the appropriate documentation and delivery of work requests.
Requirements:
  • A valid State driver's license is required.
  • A Class B CDL permit is required within six months of hire date, and a Class B CDL is required within one year of hire date.
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, or G.E.D. Certificate and six months of vocational training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two years of experience in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of varied automotive equipment.
