Job Overview

The Senior Financial Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the Fleet accounting division by managing the complete accounting cycle for the department. Key responsibilities encompass the preparation of journal entries for month-end closure, offering variance analyses, executing account reconciliations, and collaborating with both internal and external auditors, alongside various accounting functions. This position also requires cross-training to ensure backup within the department and fostering collaboration with other finance and Holland America Group business units. Moreover, the Senior Financial Accountant will engage in project discussions and assist managers and directors in consulting, designing, testing, and implementing accounting initiatives. This includes contributing to ongoing enhancements through reporting, automation compliance, and delivering strategic insights. The role will also tackle challenges associated with the integration of new IT systems, including training, security, and workflow disruptions. This position works closely with other teams within Holland America Group Finance, Financial Technology, Shipboard Financial Directors, Fleet Operations, and additional departments as required.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Lead the monthly preparation and posting of complex and adjusting journal entries.
  • Oversee the monthly preparation of balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Actively participate in Fintech project discussions and the implementation of new accounting processes and documentation.
  • Prepare monthly concessionaire reports, adjustments, reviews, and ensure overall compliance.
  • Generate ad-hoc reports as necessary.
  • Assist in the development or revision of shore-side accounting policies and procedures.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis on relevant balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Engage with external financial auditors and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Perform Onboard Revenue JEA voyage validation and reconciliations.
  • Execute other related functions and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or a comparable field.
  • Experience in Corporate Accounting is preferred.
  • Possession of a CPA or currently pursuing a CPA is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Familiarity with various standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel; knowledge of Oracle is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks, adaptability to change, and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods.
