Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Risk Management Specialist to join our team at InsideHigherEd. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and mitigating various types of risks in a higher education setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership to faculty, students, and staff in the development, implementation, and execution of comprehensive programs in environmental health and safety and risk management practices, policies, procedures, initiatives, and actions.
  • Assist with the college's property, casualty, and liability insurance coverage, including annual policy renewal and claims administration.
  • Act as the college's liaison and participate in inspections conducted by agencies such as EPA, OSHA, local fire department, etc.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources Department on effective workers' compensation and claims management strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant codes and regulations, including reporting and investigations/site visits, as directed.
  • Recommend and participate in the development of college environmental protection, health, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Advise members of the college community regarding federal and state safety, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Assist faculty, students, and staff in maintaining programs to monitor and record functional and location of safety equipment and systems.
  • Maintain emergency disaster response programs involving fire, tornado, explosion, chemical spills, gas leaks, floods, utility disruptions, biological contamination, etc.
  • Develop safety training programs and conduct training sessions.
  • Conduct complex surveys of campus facilities and operations to identify existing/potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Chair the Environmental Health and Safety Committee.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Safety or Hygiene, Environmental Science/Engineering, Business, or other applicable program of study.
  • Professional certification in one or more areas of Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Current knowledge of OSHA and EPA rules and regulations and Life Safety and NFPA Codes.
  • Knowledge of emergency and hazard response procedures.
  • Five (5) years of experience in developing and monitoring environmental protection, health, and safety programs, including training of personnel and risk management activities.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and PC skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; Internet research.
  • Effective communications skills to interact and communicate environmental health and safety procedures to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong ability to maintain records and develop processes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
