Job Title: Para 1 Resource

The Olathe Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Para 1 Resource to join our team. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs in the regular classroom or resource room.

Job Summary:

The Para 1 Resource will assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs. This includes adapting classroom activities, assignments, and materials to meet the needs of students with disabilities. The successful candidate will also provide support with personal care needs, attend meetings and in-service presentations, and collaborate with staff to provide necessary support and information related to student progress.

Responsibilities:
  • Adapt and provide accommodations of classroom activities, assignments, and materials for students with special needs.
  • Aid students in and out of the classroom, including packing backpacks, note-taking, relationship building, field trips, and social skills development.
  • Occasionally assist students requiring support with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
  • Collaborate with staff to provide necessary support and information related to student progress.
  • Implement behavioral plans for students as designed by the IEP team.
  • Assist students with challenging and/or aggressive behaviors.
  • Implement education and behavioral programming under the supervision of certified staff.
  • Instruct students in various activities in individual and group settings.
  • Maintain instructional materials and data sheets.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments.
Requirements:
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • High school diploma or equivalent. If the school building is classified as Title I, 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title I assessment test is required.
Physical Requirements:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions could occasionally require some of the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and fine finger dexterity.

Generally, the job requires a combination of sitting, walking, and standing.
