Job Summary

The Olathe Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Para Educator to join our team in the Early Childhood department. As a Para Educator, you will play a vital role in supporting the educational and personal growth of our students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of students with special needs in the regular classroom, resource room, or self-contained classroom.
  • Implement plans for instruction and monitor student behavior to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Provide information to appropriate school personnel and perform classroom clerical tasks as needed.
  • Collaborate with certified staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students.
  • Implement behavioral plans and provide support to students with challenging behaviors.
  • Assist students with daily living skills, social skills, and academic subjects in individual and group settings.
  • Maintain instructional materials and data sheets to ensure accurate student progress tracking.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments to ensure a safe and positive environment.
Requirements
  • Job-related experience is desired.
  • 48 hours of college credit or the ability to pass the Title I assessment test is required for school buildings classified as Title I.
Physical Requirements

This position requires the performance of light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

The position typically involves 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. The position requires visual acuity, frequent hearing and talking, and some crouching, grasping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and significant fine finger dexterity.

This position is performed in an indoor and generally hazard-free environment.
