Position Overview

The primary function of this role is to deliver higher education instruction and related activities aimed at fostering, supporting, and enhancing student achievement. This position entails direct teaching, evaluating student performance, designing curriculum, preparing course materials, selecting textbooks, maintaining class records, and reporting on student outcomes, alongside other responsibilities typically associated with faculty roles in higher education. Instruction may occur in a clinical environment, either in healthcare facilities or in simulation/nursing laboratories on campus.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver course content in alignment with established course descriptions, schedules, and outlines provided to students.

2. Supervise students in clinical environments (hospital or lab) by coordinating schedules, facilitating skill development and assessments, setting up lab equipment, and collaborating with faculty and healthcare personnel.

3. Develop departmental objectives and strategic plans to achieve them.

4. Collaborate with faculty and staff to review, create, and select course materials.

5. Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and maintain comprehensive records of academic performance.

6. Prepare and submit grade reports and other required documentation regarding student performance.

7. Organize class activities that align with the overall objectives of the course.

8. Collaborate with the Dean of Nursing and other faculty to evaluate and adjust course and program goals, objectives, methods, and content as necessary.

9. Engage in shared decision-making processes.

10. Participate in at least one of the College's standing committees or work groups annually to uphold professional responsibilities.

11. Assist in the identification and recruitment of faculty and staff, both adjunct and full-time. Oversee student learning and activities in various settings.

12. Ensure that College equipment and materials are used safely and responsibly by students.

13. Contribute to class schedule development in collaboration with other faculty members.

14. Mentor new or adjunct instructors as appointed.

15. Engage in the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic plans and documents.

16. Act as a resource for project and grant development, implementation, and evaluation.

17. Participate in the assessment of personal and institutional effectiveness as outlined in relevant regulations.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

- In-depth knowledge of the subject areas relevant to the instruction.

- Understanding of effective communication and instructional strategies.

- Familiarity with the characteristics of community college students.

- Knowledge of curriculum development principles.

- Awareness of institutional rules and regulations impacting faculty and students.

- Proficient in written and oral communication across diverse audiences.

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

- Capacity to mentor professional peers.

- Skill in making evaluative judgments regarding student performance.

- Competence in using technology and software for instructional purposes.

Educational Requirements:

  • A master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a focus on maternal-child nursing.
  • A doctorate in nursing is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in maternal-child nursing.
  • Active and unrestricted Florida RN license.
  • Teaching experience is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Clinical settings may require non-traditional hours.
  • Attendance at seminars and conferences may be required.
