Position Overview

As a Retail Sales Associate, also referred to as a Generalist colleague, you play a crucial role in delivering the Macy's experience, with the Macy's shopper being your top priority. Your keen awareness of customer preferences and the knowledge you acquire about Macy's products and services will enable you to craft remarkable experiences for every customer you meet. By assisting your team in achieving sales targets through consistently excellent service, your friendly and inviting demeanor will resonate throughout your area. From the sales floor to fitting rooms and product displays, you will be part of a dynamic, inclusive team that embraces every challenge.

Your Responsibilities
  • Welcome and engage with customers in a friendly and sincere manner, demonstrating our appreciation for their presence and commitment to their experience.
  • Suggest products by asking questions to understand customer needs and inspiring purchases with new and relevant items.
  • Provide options and solutions to customers to facilitate the sale.
  • Conclude the customer's shopping experience by celebrating their purchases and sharing in their excitement.
  • Master store offerings, services, loyalty programs, and Macy's sales systems to assist customers in finding what they need and recommending additional items.
  • Maintain department standards for recovery, including the sales floor and fitting rooms.
  • Ensure optimal merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, and timely markdown processing.
Essential Skills
  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of the products you are selling, enabling you to provide expert guidance based on customer preferences and features.
  • Communication: Comfortable interacting with customers through various channels, including virtually, via phone, and in person.
  • Sales: Ability to build rapport with customers, meet sales objectives, and engage in pre-selling and sales-enhancing activities.
  • Technology: Utilize point-of-sale technology and applications to assist in selling and fulfilling customer orders.
  • Continuous Learning: Self-motivated to stay updated on product knowledge and trends, and to complete all training through Macy's educational resources.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal abilities, capable of working effectively with colleagues at all levels and across departments.
  • Collaboration: Work in partnership with the entire team to drive sales and enhance the customer experience.

  • No specific education or experience required.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods (at least two consecutive hours) of standing and walking throughout the store or department.
  • Frequent use of computers and handheld electronic devices.
  • Tasks may include reaching, crouching, kneeling, and color vision.
  • This role requires lifting, moving, standing, reaching with arms and hands, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 30 lbs.
