Role Description: We are seeking a proactive and skilled paralegal with a background in serving diverse cultural communities to enhance our legal team. This role is pivotal in delivering immigration services to our members and the broader immigrant population, particularly focusing on African communities. The legal program provides complimentary immigration assistance, including but not limited to family petitions, naturalization processes, and status adjustments.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver immigration legal services to community members, ensuring compliance with all legal and ethical standards.
  • Conduct eligibility assessments for prospective clients seeking immigration relief.
  • Collaborate with clients to gather necessary documentation efficiently.
  • Maintain consistent communication with clients regarding their cases and requirements.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents pertinent to immigration cases, including applications and petitions for submission to relevant authorities.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including managing legal correspondence and scheduling.
  • Organize and maintain both physical and electronic client files and documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions focused on legal services.
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate partners or organizations as needed.
  • Help coordinate community outreach initiatives, including legal clinics and educational presentations.
  • Provide interpretation services when necessary.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm or non-profit setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in legal studies or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to foster relationships with clients and partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in common office software and databases.
  • Professional demeanor with effective phone communication skills.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Fluency in French or a widely spoken African language is highly desirable.
