Position Overview

The Junior Financial Analyst plays a crucial role in executing professional and technical tasks related to various financial operations. This includes managing revenue receipts, processing accounts receivable, conducting bank reconciliations, and entering journal entries. The position also involves supporting financial reporting processes and ensuring adherence to governmental regulations and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Reconciles the city's bank statements with the financial system, addressing discrepancies promptly.
  2. Records cash inflows and manages accounts receivable transactions.
  3. Prepares journal entries for allocations, corrections, and routine financial activities.
  4. Monitors daily cash transactions and accurately records entries.
  5. Oversees the city's purchasing card program, collecting receipts and documenting transactions.
  6. Assists in the preparation of audit and budget documentation, along with statistical reports.

Additional Duties

  1. Maintains contracts, leases, and other essential documents in line with retention policies.
  2. Processes purchase orders for the Finance Department and verifies their accuracy.
  3. Supports the insurance renewal process and keeps records of insured assets.
  4. Engages in various other related tasks as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
  • Proficiency in office procedures and equipment.
  • Familiarity with data entry processes and financial software.
  • Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform computations accurately.
  • Effective organizational skills to manage documentation and records.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and privacy in all assignments.
  • Strong communication skills for effective interaction with colleagues and the public.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this classification typically require reaching, standing, walking, and manual dexterity. The role is primarily sedentary, requiring occasional lifting of light objects.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Associate degree or two-year technical certificate in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  2. Two years of relevant experience in Finance or Accounting.
  3. Two years of data entry experience in accounting or bookkeeping.
  4. Proficiency in using spreadsheets, email, and word processing software.
  5. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience with Office 365, including Teams and SharePoint.
  2. Familiarity with ERP financial software.
  3. Experience in governmental or non-profit accounting.
  4. Knowledge of governmental fund accounting.
