Position: Senior Automation Engineer
Location: Marion, NC
Contract Duration: 5 Months

Role Summary:

  • This role is pivotal in delivering daily engineering assistance to production sectors during weekdays and weekends as necessary.
  • The engineer will engage in the design, development, and execution of PLC initiatives.
  • Required experience includes 0-2 years with skills in Rockwell Control Logix PLC programming, familiarity with robotic systems is advantageous, ability to evaluate electrical designs, train personnel, identify deficiencies, and formulate solutions for programming challenges.
  • Provide technical support and services across various departments within the facility. Responsibilities may also encompass supervising, requisitioning, defining, initiating, specifying, documenting, and training.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to or lead the development of solutions tailored to specific project challenges.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and other departments on compliance with manufacturing regulations.
  • Draft and/or execute validation activities and report findings.
  • Design and conduct routine testing, project experiments, analyze data, and communicate results.
  • Conduct engineering assessments on new equipment to establish operational settings and control parameters, including data collection during startup and testing phases.
  • Initiate new or revise existing protocols and operating instructions relevant to the project.
  • Conduct NCR/CAPA investigations and associated tasks.
  • Oversee and implement change control activities concerning equipment.
  • Fulfill work assignments within the production sector, which includes training and providing technical support.
  • Propose and implement modifications to operational policies as deemed appropriate.
  • Assist in the design, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and systems as necessary.
  • Execute technical troubleshooting and resolve issues for both existing and new equipment/systems.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (both internal and external) on projects related to current and new product lines.
  • This position requires frequent movement between the office and production areas.
  • Must be capable of working in a clean room environment without natural light.
  • Occasionally required to use a ladder to access machinery.

  • Preferred Technical Software Skills:
  • PLC: Allen-Bradley Control Logix, Micro Logix PLC, AB500, Safety PLCs
  • HMI: Allen-Bradley
  • Communication: Understanding of TCP/IP networks, RS-232 interfaces, Profibus communication, Fieldbus, and HSSB.
  • Specialization in control automation.
  • Electrical: Proficient troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, knowledge of Category 3 Safety Systems, E-Plan P8, AutoCAD, ability to interpret and create schematics.
  • Familiarity with drives (servo and VFD), motion control, encoders, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
  • Robotics (preferred): Fanuc, Yaskawa.
  • Vision Systems (preferred): Cognex, Keyence.
  • Programming (Bonus): C#, C++, VB, SQL Server.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering preferred).
  • Experience in a regulated industry is advantageous.
Technical Skills (Software or Other):
  • Familiarity with Allen-Bradley PLCs.
  • Familiarity with servo control systems (Rockwell, Yaskawa) preferred.
  • Ability to read and write electrical schematics.
  • Hands-on mechanical skills are a plus.
