Position Overview

As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse is accountable for the comprehensive planning and execution of patient care, employing nursing methodologies, assessment, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves overseeing care plans, utilizing effective problem-solving techniques, and applying evidence-based practices. The nurse is expected to uphold the high-quality standards of a Magnet-designated institution and adhere to the Patient Bill of Rights. This position operates under the guidance of the Nursing Manager/Director and is characterized by a commitment to continuous learning and delivering compassionate, family-centered care to patients in the Cardiac Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete patient admission assessments and manage the discharge planning process in accordance with departmental and hospital protocols.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and document individualized care plans ensuring safe and effective patient care.
  • Administer nursing interventions, including IV site monitoring, specimen collection, and assisting the medical team with procedures.
  • Follow physician directives, administer medications, and adhere to medication administration policies.
  • Engage in daily care planning rounds with a multidisciplinary team, fostering a Family-Centered Care environment.
  • Utilize electronic tools to enhance patient care efficiency and respond promptly to patient call lights to ensure safety.
  • Administer sedation safely and monitor patient recovery in accordance with established protocols.
  • Deliver exceptional patient care by meeting attendance and communication standards, ensuring service excellence.
  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments, including vital signs, dressing changes, and patient repositioning.
  • Document and manage restraint orders as required by sedation policies.
  • Provide appropriate wound care following established guidelines.
  • Access and document in the electronic health record in compliance with hospital policies.
  • Communicate critical lab results effectively as per hospital protocols.
  • Engage with patients and families to discuss care plans and address any concerns.
  • Promote a safe working environment by consistently delivering high-quality care.
  • Assess all body systems to ensure efficient care delivery while preventing medication errors and other complications.
  • Facilitate effective handoff communication during shift changes and patient transfers.
  • Demonstrate proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Participate actively in nursing governance and unit-based initiatives.
  • Meet or exceed departmental standards, ensuring timely documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current RN Licensure in the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC).
  • Active CPR BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
  • PALS certification from the American Heart Association, to be obtained within one year.
  • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association, to be obtained within one year.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or currently enrolled in a BSN program.
  • Preferred: National Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN or CCRN) within five years of hire.
  • Experience in a Pediatric ICU setting is preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of RN experience in an ICU environment is preferred.
  • Experience with congenital heart defects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and computer systems is preferred.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for informed patient care decisions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to positively influence and hold oneself and others accountable.
  • Effectively collaborate within a team environment.
  • Ability to apply evidence-based practices and analytical thinking in nursing care.
  • Flexibility to float to various nursing units while maintaining clinical excellence.
  • Willingness to cover on-call assignments as per departmental policies.
