Studio Design Manager

ESPN is seeking a seasoned Studio Design Manager to lead the execution of studio/scenic projects from inception through delivery. As a key member of the Directing/SD&D Department, you will work closely with Production and Director representatives to develop set/scenic designs that meet our high standards for quality and creativity.
About the Role
- We are looking for a talented individual with at least 5 years of experience in design/directing/project management or related fields. Your expertise should include productions in both studio and field settings.
- You will be responsible for leading basic studio/scenic projects from conception to completion, ensuring timely and budget-friendly delivery.
- As a strong leader, you will demonstrate effective communication skills, leadership qualities, and passion for production and technical areas.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and participate in developing responses to set/scenic design project requests, including traditional scenery and virtual production environments.
- Participate in meetings with Production/Director representatives to develop set/scenic designs, working collaboratively to achieve intended results.
- Work closely with vendors to supervise contracts and accounts, contributing to project success.
- Develop and manage project/show budgets, recommending spending areas, including set design, display technology, lighting, and studio equipment.
- Coordinate departmental communications and vendor interactions for projects.
- Become proficient in the company's procurement and purchasing modules.
- Continuously develop your leadership, project management, and studio/scenic design skills under the guidance of the Manager.
- Maintain ESPN's performance standards by consistently performing duties and functions required of this role, demonstrating strong leadership qualities in all interactions and decisions.
- Be prepared for travel, including off-site productions, vendor locations, special projects, and outdoor events, as well as business meetings and training opportunities.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in design/directing/project management or related fields.
- Experience with productions in studio and field settings.
- Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of contracts and budgets.
- A hard-working attitude, attention to detail, and passion for production and technical areas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with studio show execution in Bristol, outside facilities, and in the field.
- Understanding of virtual production environments, including AR/VR/xR volumetric technologies.
- Bilingual language skills (Spanish/English) preferred.
Salary: $85,000 - $110,000 per year
