Job Summary

As a Financial Aid Specialist at the Tennessee Board of Regents, you will play a vital role in assisting students with the financial aid process. Your primary responsibility will be to process documents, manage workflows, and provide exceptional customer service to students and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communication and Documentation: Manage email inquiries, assist with workflow scanning and indexing, and provide timely responses to student and faculty requests.
  • File Management: Monitor incomplete files, prepare applicants' files for verification and awarding, and ensure accurate and efficient processing.
  • Front Counter Support: Serve students at the front counter when assistants are unavailable and provide telephone support to address their concerns.
  • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Appeals: Prepare SAP appeals for the Director/Student Aid & Awards Committee review and ensure compliance with institutional policies.
  • Administrative Tasks: Order office supplies, maintain the FA calendar for appointments and meetings, and coordinate events such as FAFSA Frenzies and GE.
  • Scholarship Processing: Process JSCC scholarships, notify recipients, monitor budgets, and reconcile funds.
Requirements
  • Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of financial aid experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and colleagues.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with Banner database or knowledge of its functionality.
  • Mathematical and Analytical Skills: Ability to perform basic math functions and calculations related to financial aid information.
  • Decision-Making and Reasoning Skills: Ability to make informed decisions, advise students, and apply relevant policies and procedures.
Pay and Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $34,844 - $41,813, depending on eligible experience. The FLSA status is Non-Exempt, and the opening is for one position. A completed satisfactory background check is required before hire.
