POSITION OVERVIEW:

As a vital member of a collaborative team comprising speech and language therapists and occupational therapists, the successful candidate will engage with educational institutions to support children and young adults aged 4 to 25, or focus on a more specific age group.

Providing guidance and assistance to local educational settings for children and adolescents experiencing Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN), including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) alongside SLCN; managing a caseload to ensure that desired outcomes are achieved within established service standards.

Enhancing awareness of the requirements and strategies available for children and young people with SLCN.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

To personally manage a caseload of referrals, which includes: Assessing and evaluating children and young people with SLCN.


To accurately identify the necessary service provisions based on the needs of the child or young person at specialized, targeted, or universal support levels.

Implementation of specialized programs on an individual or small group basis. Providing guidance to parents, caregivers, and educational staff at both targeted and universal levels. Maintaining comprehensive records for children and young people to a high standard.

Specific Responsibilities:

To advise and assist educational staff regarding the learning of children and young people with SLCN, including: Screening and prioritizing new referrals to ascertain the necessity and level of therapy services required according to service criteria.

At the time of referral, collecting pertinent information about prior and current involvement from health and social care services.

Conducting a variety of standardized and non-standardized assessments and interpreting various factors related to the condition of the child or young person, with a focus on educational access.

Generating reports for referrers and other agencies involved in the care of the child or young person, along with advice on suitable curriculum differentiation and access.


Designing, implementing, and delivering a diverse array of customized interventions and/or therapy programs where direct Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) input is warranted, and effectively transferring prescribed programs through training and modeling with educational staff, parents, and caregivers.

To maintain effective communication with all stakeholders, including parents/caregivers, professionals in Education, Health, Social Care, and other services, particularly concerning Safeguarding and best practices.

To monitor and document the progress of children or young people and the effectiveness of interventions through goal setting, outcome measurement, and evaluation of practices, communicating these findings with key stakeholders.

Collaborating with various partner agencies to facilitate effective transition support for specific children and young people.

Promoting the successful inclusion of children and young people in all facets of the educational curriculum. Participating in and contributing to team meetings as necessary.

Training and Development Responsibilities:

To stay informed about evolving trends in treatment and advocate for Evidence-Based Practice; integrating this into one's specialized area of work to deliver the highest quality of care to service users.

Incorporating legislative changes and key developments related to improved outcomes for children and young people with SLCN. Engaging in clinical audits, service development initiatives, and research programs as required.

To participate in ongoing professional development as identified through managerial and clinical supervision and appraisal, including attending training sessions and courses as agreed.

To adhere to the mandatory training requirements set by Cognus Limited. As part of the therapies team, to plan, deliver, and evaluate training sessions for educational institutions and providers.
