Job Summary

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee all grants and contracts awarded to the Division of Gerontology, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and University policies and regulations.
  • Prepare and finalize grant and contract budgets and applications, validating proposal errors and warnings.
  • Provide consultation, advice, and direction to faculty/PIs on grant and contracting issues, translating program requirements into contract terms.
  • Identify, develop, and ensure contract requirements contain quantifiable specifications and measurable performance criteria.
  • Review sponsor guidelines and request for proposals, interpreting and communicating compliance and eligibility information to research faculty and staff.
  • Maintain all close documentation for the department and sub-awards, seeking approvals for invention statements and publications.
  • Interpret data to determine past financial performance, developing and preparing financial reports for analysis, forecasting, and trending.
  • Develop safeguards to ensure the integrity of grant administration or contracts and protect the University from financial losses.
  • Identify issues and resolve independently, anticipating roadblocks and proactively resolving them.
  • Develop evaluation criteria for review of grant and contract applications, reviewing and interpreting funding agency guidelines and regulations.
  • Develop timelines to meet submission deadlines and checklists of required documents, adjusting timelines as needed.
  • Provide guidance on staffing and budgetary requirements, reviewing and maintaining documentation related to cost transfers, requests for expenditures, effort reporting, budget revisions, and fund statements.
  • Coordinate invoicing, accounts receivable, and deposits in the financial system, ensuring payments are applied correctly.
  • Interact directly with sponsor representatives to clarify ambiguous terms and conditions, and to request supplemental funding, no-cost extensions, and other administrative requests.
  • Identify future funding opportunities and work with PI to identify research components.
  • Act as the point of contact for all UMB parties and sponsors involved in the negotiation process.
  • Maintain, identify, and resolve any delinquent trainings, conflict of interest, and other institutional compliance requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.
  • Five (5) years of directly related contract, grant, or research administration experience.
  • Eligibility for this position is limited to individuals with experience managing large federal grants, advanced knowledge of software programs, and knowledge of best practices in research administration.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to function in a team and collaborative environment.
  • Outstanding organizational, problem-solving, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.
