The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) is responsible for overseeing all departmental activities, including financial management, personnel administration, systems management, research administration, and facilities management. The CAO ensures compliance with University policies and procedures and is responsible for hiring and retaining a well-trained, efficient, and customer service-oriented staff. The CAO participates in immediate and long-term planning for the department to maximize limited resources.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee departmental administration, including financial management, personnel administration, systems management, research administration, and facilities management.
- Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Hire and retain a well-trained, efficient, and customer service-oriented staff.
- Participate in immediate and long-term planning for the department to maximize limited resources.
- Establish and maintain timely and appropriate reporting mechanisms for chairs and faculty regarding fiscal, personnel, and other critical management areas.
- Serve as liaison between other departments, other University offices, and extramural organizations.
- Serve on department and university advisory committees.
The Department of Anatomy and Microbiology is a basic science department within the School of Medicine that performs scientific research, training, and teaching at Mission Bay and Parnassus Heights. The department's research focuses on areas related to molecular microbiology, infectious diseases, immunology, and cancer. The department also provides advanced research training to postdoctoral fellows and graduate students working towards their Ph.D. degrees.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- 8+ years directly related experience.
- 7+ years of lead/supervisor/manager experience.
- Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, human resources and risk management planning, accounting and payroll.
- Very strong ability to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify multiple options for resolution.
- Thorough knowledge of common organization-specific and other computer application programs.
- Excellent ability to establish metrics for department and employee goals.
- Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively lead, motivate, and influence others and to develop and maintain high standards of customer service.
- Excellent project management skills, including the capability of managing capital projects.
