We currently have an opening for a Paralegal/Legal Assistant II. In this capacity, you will play a vital role in supporting the mission of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys in the evaluation of case materials, including the collection and analysis of relevant information, and the preparation of summaries of key decisions and legal references.
  • Draft, revise, and review non-legal documents, including correspondence and research reports.
  • Prepare for trial by organizing evidence and creating statistical charts and visual aids.
  • Conduct interviews with potential witnesses and compile summary reports of these interviews.
  • Review legal documents to verify the accuracy of citations and legal references.
  • Participate in pre-trial meetings to assess case materials for any missing documents or inconsistencies, and request additional information as needed.
  • Summarize testimony and depositions during and after trial proceedings.
  • Investigate the facts and legal principles of cases, search public records, and compile reports related to case preparation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possession of a Paralegal Certificate or a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of two years of paralegal experience.
  • Experience in trial support and automated litigation processes is preferred.
  • Ability to understand the structure and functions of the organization.
  • Knowledge of basic legal research methods, including standard citation practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proficiency in legal writing.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other common software, including databases and legal research tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing outstanding customer service with a positive and adaptable attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while maintaining professionalism under pressure.

Additional Information

This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a comprehensive background investigation lasting a minimum of 7 (or 10) years.
