Job Title: Construction Inspector

STV Incorporated is seeking a skilled Construction Inspector to join our team in Austin, TX. As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for overseeing a range of construction projects, including roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports, and related structures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and perform observations of public works, street, highway, bridge, building components, infrastructure, and tract right of way on construction projects.
  • Conduct on-site observations of construction installations, including materials, grade elevations, underground facilities, construction safety precautions, and minor concrete structures.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, encroachment permits, and other plans affecting assigned projects.
  • Participate in meetings to discuss construction details and resolve issues with contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Make field measurements and ensure conformance with applicable safety standards and regulations.
  • Assist in coordinating materials testing and perform material tests at job sites and manufacturing process inspections at fabrication sites.
  • Identify on-site project problems and observe, report, and alert appropriate members of the project team on non-conformance issues.
  • Maintain daily diary and field records of material and quantities used, and calculate and recommend formal approval of appropriate progress payments to contractors for work completed.
Requirements:
  • High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
  • 5 years in construction, maintenance and repairs, construction inspection, engineering support, materials, or process inspection; or related experience.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Required to obtain material testing and inspection certifications.
Competencies:
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations specific to area of responsibility for safeguarding information and information technology related systems.
  • Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities.
  • Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints, and maps.
  • Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
  • Interpreting applicable information.
  • Using computers, tablets, and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
  • Maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Training in a classroom, office, or field environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Trains and mentors less experienced inspectors on work methods.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees.
  • Subject to hazards-moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals.
  • Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs. at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs.
  • Balancing, walking, standing, and bending on various surfaces without falling.
  • Standing-prolonged periods of time.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8am to 5pm.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Required to work in the field or job site location.
  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
  • Employee may be contacted during off-duty hours to see if he or she can report to work within 1 hour for emergency situations, such as inclement weather events.
