Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physician Assistant to join our cardiothoracic surgery team at U of L Physicians. The successful candidate will assist the surgeon during thoracic or cardiovascular operations, perform preoperative and postoperative duties, and provide comprehensive care in a medical practice/clinical setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in various cardiac procedures, including emergency procedures, and demonstrate versatility and competency.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and other team members during surgical procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining hemostasis, retracting tissues, and using electrocautery, clamps, ligation, and cutting of tissue.
  • Assist in the closure of all surgical sites and application of dressings.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs, anesthesia levels, and physiological responses throughout the procedure.
  • Obtain necessary CEUs to maintain certification and maintain compliance with all company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
Qualifications
  • Previous professional experience in cardiothoracic surgery is preferred.
  • Must hold or obtain a valid Physician Assistant license in Kentucky.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) are required.
