Patient Care Associate

At NYC Health + Hospitals, we are seeking a Patient Care Associate to join our team. As a Patient Care Associate, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with the direct and indirect care of patients, under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and other licensed nurses.
Responsibilities:- Provide verbal reports of patient care rendered to the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Prepare patients for transport and accompany them as needed.
- Support and encourage breastfeeding and bonding between mother and infant.
- Assist with patient care, including vital signs, peri-care, breast-feeding, measurement of intake and output, and basic maternal and newborn care.
- Remove all material used by prior patients upon discharge and inform the Head Nurse/Nurse in charge of rooms needing to be cleaned.
- Prepare admission rooms, make clean beds/cribs, and place needed supplies at bedside.
- Prepare isolation rooms, stock cabinets and isolation carts/tables with appropriate masks, gloves, gowns, and plastic bags.
- Divide all supplies as sterile and non-sterile, and fluids.
- Maintain a safe and clean treatment room with well-stocked supplies and functioning equipment.
- Check all supplies for expiration dates, including surgical supplies.
- Maintain examination rooms in a clean and orderly state and report significant conditions that could affect patient safety and well-being.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment free of hazards to reduce the risk of injury to all customers.
- Explain, involve, and instruct patients/families concerning the therapeutic regimen and environment of care.
- Under the supervision of the primary nurse, distribute milk, formula, pampers, and other patient care items, and enter vital signs on the computer and other patient-related data as assigned.
- High school diploma or its educational equivalent, approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization.
- Successful completion of a NYS Department of Health prescribed training program for Phlebotomy, satisfactory to the Laboratory Director.
- Completion of a health care setting-based training program in the performance of electrocardiographs and basic life support procedures, including certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
In addition to meeting the qualifications above, assignment to a long-term care facility requires a New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate.
