Core Responsibilities

The Lead Research Scientist at the Innovation Center is responsible for spearheading research initiatives within the various units of the Jordan Valley Innovation Center. This role involves executing research goals as directed by the Principal Investigator, utilizing grants and contracts as the foundation for project work.

The Lead Research Scientist operates multiple laboratories to facilitate sponsored research experiments. This position includes serving as both Principal and Co-Principal Investigator on various grants and contracts, with a strong emphasis on independent project management and innovative problem-solving in the absence of established protocols.

In addition, the Lead Research Scientist supervises a dedicated team of research scientists, technicians, faculty, and students, providing training on diverse research methodologies and protocols.

This role is also responsible for developing operational guidelines for laboratory activities and serves as a division leader within the JVIC framework, overseeing specific resource divisions.

Quality assurance and control are paramount; the Lead Research Scientist ensures that their division operates efficiently, maintains budgetary oversight, and enhances the overall operational effectiveness of the Innovation Center.

Technical responsibilities include operating, testing, and maintaining scientific equipment, assisting in the design and construction of innovative scientific devices, and contributing to the development of facilities for high-stakes research and development.


Research Focus Areas

This position is contingent upon ongoing grant funding. The Lead Research Scientist will engage in various research projects, with a focus on:

Research projects may include but are not limited to:

  • Nano-materials and nanotechnology
  • Printed electronics
  • Carbon composites
  • Chemical vapor deposition techniques
  • Analytical and synthetic chemistry
  • Non-destructive evaluation techniques such as CT scanning

Qualifications
Education:
A Master's degree in an Applied Science or a closely related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of research experience, including familiarity with laboratory techniques and protocols relevant to the field. Experience in grant development and execution, as well as scientific writing and presentation, is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in corporate R&D or related research projects.

Skills:
Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills are required. The ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and graphics software is necessary. A demonstrated commitment to inclusivity and multicultural competence in the workplace is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting and transporting of materials and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds is required. Normal color vision is necessary for conducting experiments.
