Position: Senior Educator

Employment Type: Full-time, 40 hours per week, 38 weeks annually

Compensation:

  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education: $16.69 per hour
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education: $18.44 per hour

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess at least an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, along with relevant experience and coursework as per the Head Start Act or state-awarded Early Childhood Certificate. Successful completion of the Reliability Certification within three months of hire is required. A minimum of one to three years of experience working with young children is highly preferred. Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), the ability to develop age-appropriate lesson plans, a passion for engaging with young children, and a commitment to confidentiality are essential for this role. Proficiency in word processing and data entry is necessary. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for attending trainings and home visits. Candidates must also complete training and maintain certifications in CPR and First Aid. Initiative, independent judgment, and teamwork skills are crucial.

Position Summary:

The Senior Educator is responsible for ensuring the safety of children while promoting measurable growth in their physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development. This role involves building and maintaining positive relationships with parents and guardians, collaborating with other classroom staff to enhance their skills through effective delegation and feedback, and coordinating daily educational activities in alignment with organizational policies and state licensing standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee classroom staff and volunteers, ensuring effective classroom strategies, documentation, lesson planning, and developmentally appropriate activities.

  • Conduct two home visits per year for each family in the caseload.

  • Maintain ongoing communication with staff, supervisors, parents, and service providers.
  • Uphold confidentiality regarding all matters related to children, families, and staff in accordance with program standards.
  • Participate in continuous professional development through trainings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Report any suspected cases of child abuse or neglect following established procedures.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

The physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, seeing, talking, and hearing, as well as manual dexterity. Occasionally, the role may require reaching, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching. The educator must be able to supervise students effectively, which may involve matching their walking speed and occasionally running to ensure their safety. Lifting and moving students (up to 40 pounds) and handling equipment or supplies may also be necessary. The job primarily takes place in a school setting, with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is typical of a school environment.
