Job Title: Accounting Specialist

Job Summary:

The United States Capitol Police (USCP) is seeking a highly skilled Accounting Specialist to safeguard the financial integrity of the organization. As an Accounting Specialist, you will play a critical role in analyzing and validating financial data, developing and implementing accounting policies and standards, and performing quality assurance reviews of existing and proposed accounting processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze and validate financial data to ensure accurate recording and consistent reporting.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and standards region and agency-wide.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews of existing and proposed accounting processes to provide assurances as to financial integrity and conformance to Federal laws and USCP regulations and practices.
  • Design controls to track financial records, safeguard assets, and ensure accurate valuations, properly classified transactions, and reliable financial statements and reports.
  • Prepare statements and reports containing essential financial information such as financial and contractual status, general ledger accounts systems, quarterly and annual reports, and accounts receivables due.
Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Successful completion of a Background Investigation is required.
  • Must complete a one year probationary period.
Qualifications:
  • One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the CP-10/GS-12 level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Knowledge of the theories, concepts, principles, and practices of accounting and financial management.
  • Experience operating new and old accounting systems concurrently.
  • Experience applying advanced technology to improve accounting systems and services.
  • Ability to plan, analyze, and determine cost/benefit relationships and coordinate a wide variety of functions, operations, and administrative systems.
