POSITION OVERVIEW

The Accounting Specialist is accountable to the Controller and plays a crucial role in executing the daily operations of the accounting cycle for D.C. United and its associated entities. This position involves managing accounting transactions to ensure a comprehensive and precise general ledger, in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. The ideal candidate will possess a keen attention to detail, the ability to meet deadlines, and a proactive approach to identifying potential issues while suggesting enhancements to internal processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reviews and processes daily invoices, subcontracts, check requests, and other relevant documentation for accuracy and adherence to financial policies, procedures, budgetary constraints, and contractual obligations.
  • Handles payment processing through the Mineral Tree payment system.
  • Prepares entries for the general ledger.
  • Maintains schedules for asset and liability rollforwards, including intercompany transactions.
  • Oversees revenue recognition schedules for ticket sales, sponsorships, and various revenue streams.
  • Updates cash journals with daily financial activities.
  • Assists in the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closing processes, including accruals.
  • Supports the annual audit by providing necessary documentation, investigating discrepancies, and addressing inquiries.
  • Performs a variety of accounting and administrative tasks to support the accounting department.
  • Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in corporate accounting.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Familiarity with Sage Intacct or similar accounting/ERP software.
  • A collaborative team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
