Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in applying established accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices to the core financial operations of the University. This position collaborates closely with the Business Office and the Financial Aid finance manager to assess current operational practices, ensuring compliance with accounting standards for audit and internal financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will also identify opportunities for process enhancements across all aspects of the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare both standard and customized income and balance sheet statements, consolidated financial statements, and various other accounting reports.
  • Ensure that daily operations align with established accounting principles, policies, and objectives.
  • Analyze financial reports and records, providing recommendations regarding accounting reserves, assets, and expenditures.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and classifications assigned to various records.
  • Conduct specialized studies and develop or recommend accounting methods and procedures.
  • Coordinate accounting matters with other departments and divisions.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and generate appropriate journal entries.
  • Oversee accounts payable and payroll accounting functions.
  • Ensure the accuracy of accounts receivable balances between management systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Two to five years of relevant business experience.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience in a proprietary, for-profit business setting is desirable.
  • Knowledge of company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Great Plains and Nexus Payables is highly preferred.
