Role Summary:

We are in search of a seasoned and proactive Director of Maintenance and Engineering to lead our operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, this pivotal role encompasses the strategic planning, organization, and oversight of our maintenance division. Responsibilities include managing the upkeep of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure, alongside directing engineering initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reliability. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strategic approach, exceptional leadership capabilities, and technical proficiency to ensure optimal maintenance and performance of our organizational assets.

Core Responsibilities:

Maintenance Oversight:

  • Formulate and execute maintenance strategies and programs to guarantee the effective functioning and durability of equipment and facilities.
  • Establish and manage preventive maintenance schedules while supervising the completion of maintenance activities.
  • Oversee the maintenance budget, manage expenditures, and optimize resource distribution.

Engineering Initiatives:

  • Identify potential areas for engineering enhancements and cost-saving measures.
  • Lead and manage engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals.

Leadership Development:

  • Recruit, train, and mentor members of the maintenance and refrigeration teams.
  • Establish performance objectives and provide ongoing feedback and assessments.
  • Promote a culture of safety, food safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to applicable regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement and uphold safety protocols to foster a secure working environment.

Asset Management:

  • Maintain precise records of equipment and facility assets.
  • Plan for asset replacements, upgrades, and modernization as needed.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and oversee the budget for the maintenance and engineering department.
  • Monitor spending and identify opportunities for cost efficiencies.

Vendor and Contractor Relations:

  • Assess and manage relationships with maintenance and engineering service providers and contractors.
  • Negotiate contracts and supervise their execution.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Spot opportunities for process enhancements and efficiency gains.
  • Implement best practices to elevate overall maintenance and engineering operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, ideally in a relevant discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering).
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance and engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record in project management.
  • Strong technical knowledge and comprehension of machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, compliance, and risk management.
  • Skills in budget management and cost control.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification (Preferred).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management and team leaders, both in writing and verbally.
  • Capacity to professionally and diplomatically address concerns, issues, and potential project challenges.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute tasks in a dynamic and demanding work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Ability to exert 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Environmental conditions may vary, including exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
  • Weekend or shift assignments may be required as necessary.
