Role Summary:

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Director of Maintenance and Engineering to oversee our operations. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, this pivotal role involves strategizing, organizing, and managing all facets of our maintenance division. This includes the upkeep of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure, along with supervising engineering initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reliability. The successful candidate will demonstrate strategic thinking, robust leadership capabilities, and technical proficiency to guarantee that our organization's assets are maintained and optimized effectively.

Core Responsibilities:

Maintenance Oversight:

  • Formulate and execute maintenance strategies and programs to ensure the effective operation and durability of equipment and facilities.
  • Establish preventive maintenance timelines and supervise the execution of maintenance activities.
  • Administer the maintenance budget, manage expenses, and optimize resource utilization.

Engineering Initiatives:

  • Identify areas for engineering enhancements and cost-saving measures.
  • Lead and manage engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.

Leadership Development:

  • Recruit, train, and mentor maintenance and refrigeration personnel.
  • Establish performance objectives and provide ongoing feedback and assessments.
  • Promote a culture of safety, food safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to applicable regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement and uphold safety protocols to maintain a secure work environment.

Asset Management:

  • Maintain precise records of equipment and facility assets.
  • Plan for asset replacements, upgrades, and modernization as needed.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and oversee the budget for the maintenance and engineering department.
  • Monitor spending and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Vendor and Contractor Relations:

  • Assess and manage relationships with maintenance and engineering service providers and contractors.
  • Negotiate contracts and oversee their execution.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements and efficiency improvements.
  • Implement best practices to improve overall maintenance and engineering operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably in a relevant discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering).
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance and engineering leadership roles, with a history of successful project management.
  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, compliance, and risk management.
  • Skills in budget management and cost control.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification (Preferred).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of management and team leaders, both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to articulate concerns, issues, and potential challenges of projects in a professional and diplomatic manner.
  • Capacity to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute tasks in a dynamic and demanding work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee is required to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Must be able to exert 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or exert up to 60 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Environmental temperatures may vary significantly, both hot and cold.
  • Weekend or shift assignments may be necessary as required.
