Role Summary:

We are in search of a skilled and proactive Director of Engineering and Maintenance to lead our department. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, this pivotal role involves strategizing, organizing, and overseeing all facets of our maintenance operations. This includes the management of equipment, facilities, and infrastructure maintenance, as well as supervising engineering initiatives aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reliability. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strategic approach, robust leadership capabilities, and technical proficiency to ensure optimal maintenance and performance of our organizational assets.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintenance Oversight:

  • Formulate and execute maintenance strategies and programs to guarantee the effective operation and durability of equipment and facilities.
  • Establish and manage preventive maintenance schedules while overseeing the execution of maintenance activities.
  • Administer the maintenance budget, manage expenses, and optimize resource distribution.

Engineering Initiatives:

  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for engineering enhancements and cost-saving measures.
  • Lead and manage engineering projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to achieve project goals.

Leadership Development:

  • Recruit, train, and mentor members of the maintenance and refrigeration teams.
  • Establish performance objectives and provide ongoing feedback and assessments.
  • Promote a culture centered on safety, food safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

Regulatory Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to applicable regulations and industry standards.
  • Implement and uphold safety protocols to foster a secure work environment.

Asset Management:

  • Maintain comprehensive records of equipment and facility assets.
  • Plan for asset replacements, upgrades, and modernization as required.

Financial Management:

  • Prepare and oversee the budget for the maintenance and engineering department.
  • Monitor spending and identify opportunities for cost efficiency.

Vendor and Contractor Relations:

  • Assess and manage relationships with maintenance and engineering service providers and contractors.
  • Negotiate contracts and supervise their execution.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and implement opportunities for process optimization and efficiency enhancements.
  • Adopt best practices to improve overall maintenance and engineering operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, ideally in a relevant discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering).
  • Demonstrated experience in leadership roles within maintenance and engineering, with a proven record of successful project management.
  • Strong technical acumen and understanding of machinery, equipment, and facilities.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations, compliance, and risk management.
  • Experience in budget management and cost control.
  • Lean/Six Sigma Certification (Preferred).
  • Effective communication skills across various management levels, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to professionally articulate concerns, issues, and potential project challenges.
  • Capacity to plan, organize, prioritize, and execute tasks in a dynamic and demanding work environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, push, pull, climb, reach overhead, and bend.
  • Must be capable of exerting 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 60 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Exposure to varying environmental temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Weekend or shift assignments may be necessary.
