The pharmacist's role in this environment is diverse, requiring adaptability to evolving situations, collaboration with colleagues through exceptional leadership and communication skills, and the ability to mentor less experienced staff members.
Shift Details:
Day Shift:
functions similarly to a traditional retail pharmacy. Evening Shift: follows a blended workflow, with the initial part of the shift resembling retail operations and the latter half dedicated to a closed-door mail order service.
Night Shift:
operates exclusively as a closed-door mail order facility. Responsibilities for Day and Evening Shift Pharmacists:
Facilitate shift huddles to communicate expectations in the absence of a Lead Technician. Act as a resource for technicians in problem-solving and role assignments. Pre-check prescriptions for accuracy and appropriateness (PV1). Verify filled prescriptions in accordance with legal and professional standards (PV2). Provide patients with clear guidance on medication usage, dosages, and potential side effects. Train and mentor new team members, offering regular performance feedback and expectations.
Assist staff at the end of the shift in preparing the workspace for the incoming team, ensuring a clean and well-stocked environment.
Responsibilities for Night Shift Pharmacists:Communicate expectations during the initial shift huddle. Serve as a resource for technicians in problem-solving and role assignments. Train and mentor new team members, providing regular performance feedback and expectations. Support compounding teams by monitoring technicians on-site during the night shift. Assist the team in completing tasks based on daily workflow volume. Oversee fulfillment and shipping processes, aiding staff with supply runs and inventory management as needed. Communicate with management regarding operational needs, issues, or inventory requests that arise during daily activities.

Administrative Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate records of dispensed medications and patient profiles. Manage pharmacy inventory, ensuring proper and secure storage of medications. Adhere to regulatory requirements and pharmacy policies. Uphold patient confidentiality and privacy in accordance with healthcare regulations.
Research and Professional Growth:
Stay updated on new medications, treatments, and medical research. Participate in continuing education to maintain licensure and enhance clinical knowledge. Mentor pharmacy students or residents.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education:
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.
D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy institution.
Licensure:
State licensure as a pharmacist.
Core competencies include:
In-depth knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapy. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication dispensing and patient counseling. Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team. Problem-solving skills to address medication-related challenges. Proficiency in pharmacy software and electronic health records (EHR). Commitment to ethical standards and patient safety.
