Job Overview

The Lead Software Engineering Project Manager will oversee Platform Software engineering teams on critical initiatives and serve as the main engineering liaison with our clients and internal project stakeholders.

In addition to offering expertise in project management and execution, this role will also provide technical direction and support to software teams and global partners to effectively complete comprehensive embedded software development projects through DO-178B/C certification.

Position Details

Introduction:

The Platform Software division develops embedded software for various product domains at GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation, catering to both civil and military sectors, including avionics computing and networking, flight management, vehicle health and data management, and mission systems.

Key Responsibilities:

In this position, you will concentrate on the following areas of responsibility:

Project Management:
  • Lead a software engineering development team distributed across multiple sites to create Platform Software products.
  • Execute project management tasks including planning, scheduling, budgeting, technical oversight, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate with clients and internal project stakeholders, including Systems, Hardware, Safety, Security, Quality, Certification, and Sourcing.
  • Manage sub-contracts with engineering suppliers.
  • Document project details and maintain ongoing communication with the software team, support groups, and management to ensure all stakeholders remain informed.
  • Provide project status updates and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with Platform Software Engineering Managers to implement key staffing, technology, and reuse strategies, and advocate for process enhancements during project execution.
Technical Leadership:
  • Mentor sub-team leads.
  • Guide project teams through the complete software life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, verification & validation, and certification.
  • Maintain an expert level of product knowledge and application.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in computer software technology and embedded real-time systems/software development.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering program execution throughout the complete development life cycle.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology. Proof of status will be required prior to employment.
  • Work from our designated office (hybrid model) - A comprehensive corporate relocation package is available.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Master's degree in an Engineering-related field from an accredited institution.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Technical leadership experience within a development or research environment.
  • Proven ability to lead global and/or virtual teams.
  • Experience managing large-scale, global software development projects.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management and Activity-Based Management methodologies.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodologies.
Process Expertise:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with DO-178B/C avionics software development processes and certification standards.
  • Familiarity with DO-254, DO-297, and ARP-4754 certification standards.
  • Application of Product Line Engineering (PLE) principles and tools to manage software lifecycle artifacts.
  • Application of Lean practices in a software engineering context.
Technical Knowledge:
  • Understanding of processing platforms, network products, real-time operating systems, and multi-core processor architectures.
  • Demonstrated expertise with ARINC-653 integrated modular avionics (IMA) based operating systems.
Personal Attributes:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage across all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, results-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Travel Requirements: Up to 10% travel to client, GE, and supplier locations may be necessary annually.

**The position is based in a designated office on at least a hybrid basis. A comprehensive corporate relocation package is available.
