GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation is seeking a Principal Investigator to lead the development of MEMS-based Inertial Products, aimed at enhancing Assured Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) solutions. This role involves shaping the technical direction, driving product innovation, and advising senior management on technology strategies that fulfill customer requirements and maintain market leadership. The position integrates strategic planning, research, and direct development to deliver exceptional MEMS-based PNT products, focusing on launching groundbreaking offerings in the near future.
Job Responsibilities:
As a Principal Investigator, your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing the technical design and development of embedded hardware and software that implements advanced digital signal processing and control solutions.
- Identifying customer value by recognizing key industry challenges and opportunities that align with GE's product strategies.
- Defining essential technologies and organizational capabilities required to address customer needs and support product advancements.
- Collaborating with product stakeholders to create Multi-Generational Technology Plans that align with or enhance Multi-Generational Product Plans.
- Working with product leaders and GE Research to identify and pursue R&D initiatives that fund the development of key technologies.
- Leading R&D programs (with internal and external partners) that advance technologies and organizational capabilities.
- Partnering with Application Engineers to define product solutions that leverage new technologies or novel applications of existing technologies.
- Maintaining a strong understanding of emerging technologies, innovations, and industry trends.
- Building and nurturing industry relationships through participation in standard-setting committees and technical symposiums.
- Influencing key technical decision-makers in ways that support GE's product and service strategies.
- Contributing to the growth and mentoring of engineering talent and participating in strategic workforce planning activities.
- Collaborating with Application Engineers, Product Managers, Program Managers, and marketing and sales teams to pursue new business opportunities, write proposals, and estimate costs.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical or scientific field from an accredited institution.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in technical product development or technology research roles.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE will not sponsor individuals for employment visas for this job opening.
- U.S. Citizenship: This role requires access to technical data subject to U.S. Government contract restrictions.

- Master's degree in engineering, computer science, aeronautics, or a related technical or scientific field from an accredited institution.
- Strong technical expertise and practical experience in several of the following areas:
- Design, development, and testing of embedded hardware and software, including low-level programming languages (e.g., C, Assembly).
- Methods and technologies for implementing embedded functions that perform guidance, navigation, and control in real-time.
- Fault-tolerant system design.
- Model-based engineering and computer simulation.
- System integration and hardware troubleshooting.
- Digital Signal Processing and development of control loops for sensors in mixed-signal domains with high-speed digitization.
- Design and implementation of control solutions and algorithms to optimize performance against specified parameters.
- Practical understanding of ground- and satellite-based navigation systems and methods.
- Knowledge of emerging trends in alternative sensors and navigation and timing methods.
- Familiarity with regulations, standards, and requirements applicable to guidance, navigation, and control of fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft.
- 5+ years of experience in specifying, developing, characterizing, integrating, and validating Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) and strap-down Inertial Navigation Systems.
- Hands-on experience with MEMS-based gyroscopes and accelerometers and their integration with real-time embedded systems.
- Proficient in identifying customer needs and collaborating with engineering teams to define solutions.
- Proven track record of solving complex technical challenges.
- Recognized as an industry expert in one or more areas of technical domain knowledge.
- Established network within industry and academia.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
