Job Overview

The Lead Software Engineering Project Manager will oversee Platform Software engineering teams on critical initiatives and serve as the main engineering liaison with our clients and internal project stakeholders.

In addition to offering expertise in project management and execution, this role will also provide technical oversight and mentorship to software teams and global partners to effectively complete full-lifecycle embedded software development projects through DO-178B/C certification.

Position Details

Introduction:

The Platform Software division develops embedded software for various product lines at GE Renewable Energy Power and Aviation, serving both civil and military markets, including avionics computing and networking, flight management, vehicle health monitoring, and mission systems.

Key Responsibilities:

In this capacity, you will concentrate on the following areas:

Project Management:
  • Direct a software engineering development team distributed across multiple sites to create Platform Software products.
  • Oversee project execution encompassing planning, scheduling, budgeting, technical aspects, risk management, and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate with clients and internal project stakeholders, including Systems, Hardware, Safety, Security, Quality, Certification, and Sourcing.
  • Manage sub-contracts with engineering suppliers.
  • Document project details and maintain ongoing communication with the software team, support groups, and management to ensure all stakeholders are informed.
  • Provide project status updates and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with Platform Software Engineering Managers to implement key staffing, technology, and reuse strategies, and advocate for process enhancements during project execution.
Technical Leadership:
  • Mentor sub-team leaders.
  • Guide project teams through the complete software life cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, verification & validation, and certification.
  • Maintain an expert level of product knowledge and application.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in computer software technology and embedded real-time systems/software development.
  • At least 10 years of experience in software engineering program execution throughout the complete development life cycle.
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons due to access to export-controlled technology.
  • Work from a designated office with a hybrid schedule - A comprehensive corporate relocation package is available.
Desired Attributes:
  • Master's degree in an Engineering-related field from an accredited institution.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience in technical leadership within a development or research environment.
  • Proven ability to lead global and/or virtual teams.
  • Experience in managing large-scale, global software development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management and Activity Based Management methodologies.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodologies.
Process Knowledge:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with DO-178B/C avionics software development processes and certification standards.
  • Familiarity with DO-254, DO-297, and ARP-4754 certification standards.
  • Application of Product Line Engineering (PLE) principles and tools to manage software lifecycle artifacts.
  • Application of Lean practices in a software engineering context.
Technical Expertise:
  • Knowledge of processing platforms, network products, real-time operating systems, and multi-core processor architectures.
  • Demonstrated expertise with ARINC-653 integrated modular avionics (IMA) based operating systems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, results-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks.
Travel Requirements:
  • Up to 10% travel to client, GE, and supplier locations may be required annually.
