SENIOR FUNDRAISING MANAGER

Development and Outreach Division

San Francisco Office

The Development and Outreach Division of Human Rights Watch is in search of qualified candidates for the role of Senior Fundraising Manager, focusing on fundraising strategies and outreach initiatives within the San Francisco region. This full-time role will be situated in our San Francisco office and will report directly to the Director of the San Francisco office within the Development and Outreach Division.

The ideal candidate will be expected to work from the San Francisco office several days a week. We strive to provide flexibility and support throughout the recruitment and onboarding processes for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate with the San Francisco Director to develop and execute fundraising strategies;

2. Act as a representative of HRW to current and potential supporters, managing a portfolio of donors and securing major contributions;

3. Partner with the team to enhance organizational support by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting new prospects and existing donors;

4. Lead and coordinate fundraising, outreach, and cultivation events in the area, including significant annual celebrations and private gatherings;

5. Manage communications and initiatives for the Committee, focusing on advocacy, outreach, and fundraising efforts;

6. Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Committee in collaboration with the Executive Committee;

7. Oversee Committee operations and liaise with event consultants;

8. Supervise donor support services and gift processing within Salesforce, including mailings and acknowledgments;

9. Maintain donor lists, fundraising reports, and manage office and event expenditures;

10. Facilitate fundraising-specific team processes, including regular meetings and prospect research;

11. Integrate diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into the division's initiatives;

12. Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor's degree in international relations, social sciences, communications/marketing, or equivalent professional experience is essential.

Experience: A minimum of 5 to 7 years in donor or volunteer management, philanthropy, or fundraising, with a proven track record in managing large-scale events is necessary.

Skills and Knowledge:

1. A demonstrated commitment to human rights issues and the ability to effectively represent HRW's mission and programs;

2. Strong creativity, initiative, follow-through, and exceptional organizational skills;

3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English;

4. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with donors and volunteers;

5. Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration within HRW and with external partners;

6. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, with strong planning and organizational skills under pressure;

7. Proficient computer skills, with experience in Salesforce, Constant Contact, and familiarity with social media platforms being highly desirable.
