Job Summary

Seaport Steel is seeking a highly skilled Material Handler II to join our team in Vancouver, WA. As a Material Handler II, you will be responsible for operating a traveling or stationary overhead crane to lift, move, and position loads of steel within our production facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Load Safety and Handling: Observe load hookup and determine the safety of the load to ensure a secure and efficient transfer.
  • Crane Operation: Manipulate or depress crane control buttons to regulate the speed and direction of crane and hoist movement, using hoisting attachments as required.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain the crane and hoisting mechanism to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Quality Control: Inspect the crane for defective parts and notify the supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Mentorship: Mentor Material Handler I regarding the proper use of equipment and safety procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications: Certified to operate all equipment related to moving material within the warehouse.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
