Legal Support Specialist (Full Time)

We are in search of a Legal Support Specialist who will undertake paralegal responsibilities and assist in various support tasks within the Office of Conflict Counsel (OCC). Understanding the Office of Conflict Counsel

The Office of Conflict Counsel operates under the Allegheny County Public Defender's office, delivering legal representation to clients who cannot afford it. All cases handled by the OCC are processed in the Juvenile Section of the Allegheny County Family Division, focusing on matters such as dependency, delinquency, and parental rights.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and possesses strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with clients and colleagues. You are a proficient researcher capable of meeting deadlines and managing critical information while adhering to regulatory standards and demonstrating a willingness to learn new systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborating closely with assigned attorneys.
  • Inputting case information into both manual and electronic databases.
  • Completing necessary case-related documentation.
  • Reviewing and editing prepared materials for accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and content.
  • Assisting attorneys in the examination of discovery materials, including audio and video evidence.
  • Managing a variety of filing tasks, including the organization of case files.
  • Handling phone communications and relaying messages to attorneys and staff.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding case information.
  • Complying with all policies and procedures of the Office of Conflict Counsel.
  • Performing additional clerical duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills
  • Ability to operate in a confidential environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute.
  • Familiarity with relevant Pennsylvania laws and county procedures.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Effective communication skills with attorneys and other personnel.
  • Competence in handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Knowledge of standard office equipment.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, along with an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a paralegal certificate.
  • Clearances under Act 33, 34, and FBI are mandatory.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office setting.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary for this position is $39,140. As a full-time role, no other employment contracts for legal services with Allegheny County will be permitted.
