Position Overview

The Clinical Systems Specialist plays a crucial role in the configuration, evaluation, and enhancement of the Hospital Information Systems (HIS) clinical modules. This position collaborates with various stakeholders within the healthcare setting, including healthcare providers, Medical Staff, Chief Nursing Officers (CNO), Associate Chief Nursing Officers (ACNO), the Education Department, fellow Clinical Systems Specialists, and clinical department leaders to improve clinical workflows, elevate patient care quality, and optimize reporting through designated Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. This role reports directly to the Director of Information Technology.

Essential Qualifications:

*A valid Washington State RN License is required.


• The Clinical Systems Specialist is tasked with the configuration, testing, and analysis of the Hospital Information Systems (HIS) clinical modules, providing ongoing software support and end-user assistance as directed by the Director of Information Technology.


• Must possess a thorough understanding of the HIS clinical system modules, with the ability to distinguish between procedural challenges and system/application issues, offering solutions as needed.


• Responsible for documenting and addressing reported deficiencies or errors in software applications in a timely manner.


• Engages directly with software vendors to resolve error messages or report application shortcomings.


• Maintains effective communication with healthcare providers, Medical Staff, CNO, ACNO, and Clinical Department Directors regarding any issues or concerns related to clinical systems, fostering a positive information exchange.


• Collaborates closely with other Systems Analysts of interfaced systems to ensure optimal performance, including testing new interfaces and system change requests to minimize user impact.


• Involved in the development and maintenance of clinical systems policies, procedures, objectives, and safety standards related to HIS Clinical Systems.


• Provides frontline support during the implementation of new clinical systems, including super user assessment and training.


• Advocates for the significance of data integrity and security.


• Reviews all vendor product updates and upgrades received from the Helpdesk.


• Conducts system maintenance related to master files and clinical screen designs.


• Evaluates the educational needs of nursing staff concerning clinical systems and charting standards.


• Offers ongoing education on new system enhancements and effectively promotes the use of clinical systems.


• Develops and documents clinical systems education plans, policies, procedures, and manuals, as well as competency assessments.


• Regularly engages with nursing units to document reported deficiencies and/or suggested improvements.


• Participates in Quality Improvement and Nursing Leadership teams to support clinical systems initiatives.

Compensation: $67.44 per hour
