About the Position

Columbia University seeks an exceptional Strategic Communications Director to join our team. As a key member of our leadership, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and amplifying our global influence by developing and implementing a strategic communications plan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a robust communications strategy that elevates our profile globally while ensuring alignment with our mission and values.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within and outside the university, including faculty, alumni, students, and external partners.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance our brand identity and ensure consistency in messaging across all channels and departments.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to promote major events, including speaker series, conferences, and AI initiatives.
  • Participate in media outreach efforts and serve as a primary spokesperson when necessary.
Leadership and Operational Oversight
  • Supervise and develop a team of communications professionals to foster collaboration and meet departmental goals.
  • Oversee the department's budget, managing expenses, including contractor costs, and ensuring responsible financial planning.
  • Analyze and report on key metrics, providing regular updates to leadership to refine strategies as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in communications, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience in strategic communications, media relations, digital media, and crisis communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in team management, with a track record of mentoring and developing talent.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the business and academic landscape.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and managing high-level stakeholder relationships.
  • Familiarity with AI and emerging trends in business education is advantageous.
Compensation

The salary for this position is estimated to be between $205,000 - $245,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
