Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Paramedic Communication Specialist to join our team at West Virginia University Hospital, Inc. This role is responsible for coordinating pre-hospital medical command with on-line physician direction, reporting pre-hospital activity and inbound ambulances to appropriate personnel, and directly coordinating the Air Medical evacuation of seriously ill or injured patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate medical command calls and ensure timely response to requests for medical assistance.
  • Triages requests for medical command to prioritize life-threatening situations.
  • Accurately document medical command calls and maintain records in accordance with WV OEMS protocols.
  • Interact with medical command physicians to ensure appropriate level of care is rendered in the pre-hospital setting.
  • Provide advance notice and medical reports of patients to receiving facilities in a professional and timely manner.
  • Collect and input data from medical command calls into the WV OEMS database system.
  • Log productive work activities in the appropriate database.
  • Function as the communication specialist for the HealthNet Aeromedical Flight Program and assist other air medical services as needed.
  • Activate the paging system for HealthNet and Health Team members to alert crew of pending transports.
  • Screen requests for medical assistance and take appropriate action in accordance with HealthNet Aeromedical Policy and WV OEMS guidelines.
  • Plot accurate flight coordinates using the Flight Vector computer-aided dispatch system.
  • Maintain complete and accurate transport request dispatch records.
  • Receive and relay patient information from inbound ground and air transport units to the appropriate personnel.
  • Notify the appropriate personnel of pre-hospital activity that may impact hospital operations.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current certification as a West Virginia Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated training.
  • Two years' experience as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
