Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paramedic to join our team as a Communication Specialist. This role will be responsible for coordinating medical command and communication duties, including pre-hospital medical command, reporting, and air medical evacuation of critically ill or injured patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate medical command and communication duties, including pre-hospital medical command, reporting, and air medical evacuation of critically ill or injured patients.
  • Provide advance notice and medical report of patients to receiving facilities in a professional, courteous, and timely manner.
  • Accurately collect and input data from medical command calls into the WV OEMS database system.
  • Activate the paging system for HealthNet and Health Team members to alert crew of pending transports.
  • Screen and coordinate the appropriateness of all requests and take appropriate action in accordance with HealthNet Aeromedical Policy and WV OEMS guidelines.
  • Plot accurate flight coordinates using the Flight Vector computer-aided dispatch and coordinate landing zone information for all scene and hospital requests.
  • Coordinate MedCom's role as a regional communication and disaster resource center and monitor inter-hospital transports.
  • Monitor the West Virginia E.M.S. Communications system for malfunctions and notify the appropriate established E.M.S. Communications System service technicians and supervision when necessary.
  • Coordinate the activation of the WVU Hospital's Trauma, Code Blue, Adult Rapid Response, Stroke, Pediatric Rapid Response, Cardiac Cath., and Code H Teams.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Current certification as a West Virginia Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
  • Two years' experience as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandated training.
