About Us

At People Serving People, we provide emergency shelter to women and non-binary-led families and pregnant women. Our shelter offers private family bedrooms, shared bathrooms, meals, and snacks. We also provide intensive case management, children's programming, health and wellness opportunities, and parenting and early childhood education.

Job Summary

The Advocate position plays a critical role in supporting the families staying at our shelter. This role involves providing exceptional customer service, ensuring the safety of our facilities, and addressing the needs of our guests. The work shift for this position is in the evening, including weekends, from 1:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to residents and guests, including answering phones and doors, responding to immediate concerns, and orienting participants to our building and resources.
  • Assist residents and guests with problem-solving, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and enforcing house guidelines and expectations.
  • Log resident contact and incidents, communicate with the team and management, and complete End of Shift reports.
  • Assist with daily room checks, flipping rooms between families, and cleaning of rooms and changing bed linens.
  • Ensure facility safety and complete incident reports as necessary.
  • Attend meetings with the Advocate Supervisor and All Staff meetings as required.

Requirements
  • A combination of education and experience in a social service or customer service role equal to 1-2 years
  • 2 or more years' experience serving a multi-cultural, socially diverse population
  • 2 or more years' experience working with people experiencing homelessness and/or with adults/children with mental illness
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to learn other software
  • A valid, Class D driver's license is required
