Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Communications Manager to join our team at the City of Reno. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive communication strategies to engage with the public, employees, and media.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement communications strategies to achieve the City Council's strategic vision
  • Supervise a team of Communications Specialists and provide guidance on communications best practices
  • Collaborate with department heads and community liaisons to plan and execute public education and awareness programs
  • Write, edit, and format newsletters and articles for internal distribution to departments and City employees
  • Provide media training for staff approved to speak on behalf of the City
  • Monitor program compliance with laws, rules, and regulations related to public communications services
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field
  • Four years of increasingly responsible experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, communications, media coverage, or a related field
  • Valid driver's license or ability to independently get to and from multiple work locations
Working Environment

The Communications Manager will work in an office and field setting with some travel to attend meetings, interact with media at incident sites, and occasional work in inclement weather and in an emergency environment. The incumbent may be required to work extended hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
