POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a part-time role that includes benefits, requiring 64 hours over a two-week pay period, with shifts scheduled from Monday to Friday during the day.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Infection Prevention Specialist is a dedicated professional tasked with overseeing the daily operations of infection prevention and control measures. Utilizing a clinical background, the specialist will:

  • Engage in risk assessment and evaluate potential hazards within the facility.
  • Conduct surveillance activities to monitor infection trends.
  • Provide education to both patients and staff on disease transmission.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Staff to track healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).
  • Act as a resource for the hospital community, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

The Infection Prevention Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a safe work environment that adheres to regulatory standards while promoting overall health and wellness within the facility. Responsibilities also include assisting in data collection and analysis for the hospital's Quality, Compliance, and Risk programs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Infection Prevention
  • Develop, revise, and maintain policies and procedures related to infection control.
  • Serve as an active member of the Infection Prevention Committee, influencing and evaluating care standards.
  • Perform ongoing surveillance of infections among patients and staff, compiling and interpreting data.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards through regular reviews and communication.
  • Investigate infection clusters and changes in infection patterns.
  • Conduct risk assessments with input from relevant departments and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks.
  • Share infection data with department heads and collaborate on solutions.
  • Work with various departments to integrate infection control principles into policies and procedures.
  • Engage in continuous professional development through literature review and educational workshops.
  • Report infections and communicable diseases to public health authorities as required.
  • Contribute to the development of cleaning and isolation protocols based on current best practices.
  • Design and deliver educational programs on infection prevention for healthcare personnel.
  • Monitor patient care activities to identify potential infection risks.
  • Orient new employees to the Infection Control Program.
  • Provide crisis intervention and follow-up for exposure incidents.
  • Implement a Quality Improvement program focused on infection prevention.
  • Assist in quality assurance and risk management initiatives.
  • Compile and report quality improvement data to identify trends and recommend enhancements.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Support various administrative tasks as needed, including organizing meetings and maintaining records.
  • Promote a positive and collaborative work environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Employee Health
  • Deliver Employee Health services in accordance with established policies.
  • Manage immunization and tuberculosis screening programs for employees and volunteers.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to ensure compliance with current health guidelines.
  • Oversee pre-employment physicals and drug screening processes.
  • Conduct health history reviews and annual influenza vaccination programs.
  • Maintain records related to employee health and wellness.
  • Collaborate with Infection Control to ensure adherence to safety regulations.
  • Assist with workplace violence surveillance and employee incident reporting.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current nursing licensure in the state of Wisconsin.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience preferred, with a focus on infection control.

SKILLS
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to engage positively with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of nursing principles, infection control practices, and relevant regulations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Regularly required to use hands for various tasks and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and reach as needed.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds may be required.
  • Good hearing and visual acuity are necessary for patient assessment and care.
