Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Respite Care Specialist to join our team in the Menifee area. As a Respite Care Specialist, you will provide intermittent, regular scheduled, temporary care and supervision for clients with developmental disabilities who reside with family members or care providers. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the well-being and safety of our clients, while also providing support to their families.

Key Responsibilities

Provide responsible care to restore or maintain family stability in families with developmentally disabled members
Work a minimum of two hours at each respite appointment
Follow instructions for the care of clients/consumers and siblings as outlined by parent(s)/guardian(s)
Assist clients/consumers in areas of feeding, dressing, toileting, bathing, grooming, light meal preparation, etc., as needed
Use safety precautions at all times when providing care to clients/consumers and siblings
Report suspected incidents of abuse to the Respite Program Manager and complete the required documentation
Maintain certification of CPR and First Aid at all times, current copies to be on file in office
Adhere to policies and procedures in the employee handbook and respite fundamental training manual
Adhere to UCPIE's Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and all other applicable safety procedures
Report any changes in personal information to the respite program manager immediately
Complete and submit time cards, mileage, reports, etc., using UCPIE timekeeping and case management software
Complete client daily notes and submit them to UCPIE administrative offices as instructed by the respite program manager
Maintain current information on emergency call forms and submit copy to UCPIE office
Return phone calls to the UCPIE administrative team within 24 hours or immediately if an emergency message is received
Do not transport clients or siblings at any time
Continue education through training modules, workshops, annual UCPIE in-house training, etc.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
Strong written and oral communication skills
Computer proficiency
CPR and First Aid certification
Clean TB test every four years
Valid driver's license
Valid vehicle registration
Valid vehicle insurance
Clear security clearance through the FBI and DOJ
Legally eligible to work in the U.S.A.

Work Environment

This position requires community driving and visiting families in a variety of home settings. The physical demands of this job include lifting, pulling, pushing, running, and manipulating adaptive equipment and patients, which requires strength and gross motor and fine motor coordination. The employee must be able to perform CPR and administer First-Aid. The position requires sitting and/or standing for long periods of time (2 to 8 hours per shift). The position requires the ability to operate an automobile and a computer. The employee must be able to climb stairs and provide services in the family's home environment.

Travel

This job requires daily travel to the client's home, with travel not exceeding 40 miles unless approved by the Respite Program Manager.
